Thanksgiving Then and Now

Yes, we're crazy and take pictures of our babies with our Thanksgiving Turkeys...but aren't they cute?!

Thanksgiving 2006: Kathryn and Kimberly were 3 weeks old. The turkey weighed 12 pounds.

Thanksgiving 2008: Jeremiah is 4 weeks old, the Turkey weighs 13 pounds.

Jeremiah is much larger then his sisters were, thats for sure!

Its that Time of year....

Its that time of year...let the holiday baking begin! :) We started off our holiday baking with making sausage balls this morning. The girls were very excited to get to help. They were even more excited to get to eat them! YUM!! (The girls were still in their jammies...Kimberly you'll notice is in quite the mixmatch outfit...but thats what she chose to sleep in, and its much easier to just let her be then try and explain that she's not really wearing PJs.....at least she was wearing something and not running around naked like she loves to do.)

Some Pictures

Hey everyone! I don't have time to write a lot for you today, but I thought I would at least post some pictures. Things here are going well. Jeremiah has been sick with bronciolitis this week, but he's doing much better. He's down to only needing 3 breathing treatments a day, and I think that will probably decrease soon. The girls are still in love with their baby brother, and love to help feed him. They get very upset if they hear him crying, and will do anything they can to help him to stop crying....from putting in his paci, to reading him a book, to singing him a song.

The Girls' 2nd Birthday

Its hard to believe, but it was 2 whole years ago that we were holding our little girls for the first time. They turned 2 on November 6, and we had a small little party for them. They were much more interested in holding baby Jeremiah then they were in their cookie cake or their presents. I think he was their favorite gift this year! Anyway, here are a few pictures from their birthday:

7 days Old

The whirlwind has begun in the Jones household. As complicated schedules ramped up this week, multiple trips back and forth from work and home and hospital have exhausted all involved. If I get new pictures I will share... but the news of the day is...

Jeremiah is Coming Home Today!!

What a special day, ONE week old today, and the girls will have him home for their 2nd Birthday tomorrow as well!! It will make feedings, sleeping, and life in general much easier. And finally, everyone will get to bond with the special little one named Jeremiah.

4 Days Old - Part 2

Pictures are worth 1000 words. Obviously Jeremiah came off the CPAP today!!

Praise God! That is an answer to prayer. He didn't even have to go from CPAP to a Nasal Cannula before transitioning to room air. That means his lungs are working a lot better than before and more progress can be expected. He still has some retraction and labored breathing, and they must wait until his breathing is a little better before he can eat without a feeding tube. However, this is a HUGE improvement and it meant that Mommy and Daddy got to hold him today for the second time ever.

Jennifer said that she walked in the room and the nurse came over about as fast as she could and said 'Here you go mommy', knowing Jennifer had been waiting for that moment for a LONG time! She got to let Jeremiah suck on her finger as he ate via feeding tube and then he fell asleep. She proceeded to hold him for the next hour and a half while he slept. What a wonderful day of good news! We pray tomorrow is even better.

4 Days Old

Well, almost 4 days old anyway.....

Overnight, Jennifer talked to one of Jeremiah's nurses. She said he is a stong little booger and pulled the CPAP right off his little nose. She hesitated to put it back on immediately because his O2 levels didn't go down as far as expected. There are no decisions made about switching to regular oxygen until there are multiple tests done and reviewed by the doctor, but there is much hope that he has made a lot of progress over the past 4 days.

After the tests come back for the day... I'll update again. Have a GREAT sunday!!

3 Days Old

Briana here again...here's the update:

Mommy was discharged from the hospital today and seems to be doing OK, though I can't imagine how hard it was to leave the hospital without her little boy. I'm sure her little girls will help, but please keep Jennifer and John in your prayers.

Jeremiah is stable, but still on CPAP (oxygen). They have determined that he has 'Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome', which in the simplest of terms means that he has to have help to breathe until his body develops the ability to do it on it's own. Once the IRDS is resolved, he should make a full recovery, but for now no-one can determine exactly how long that will take. While he is still on CPAP he cannot be held. Once he is put on regular oxygen, they will be able to hold him. There is hope that in the next couple of days he will improve enough to move over to oxygen, but no-one will know until it happens. He also has Jaundice and is under a Billi light for that. His Billiruben numbers improved overnight, which was not expected, so it looks like the Jaundice will resolve fairly soon.

I know that Daddy was able to change a diaper today, and Mommy was able to calm him with some of the girls favorite songs (awwww...). Each tiny little thing they can do for their son makes their day. Pray that they will get those nurses and doctors that love their jobs and will allow Jennifer and John more moments like that with him.

Please continue to be in prayer for Jeremiah. It is rare for a full term baby to have IRDS, but we know that God is sovereign and in control. Pray that his lungs gain the strength they need. Pray that he is comforted while mommy and daddy cannot be there with him.
